Methanoic acid.

Methanoic acid, commonly known as formic acid is the the simplest carboxylic acid with one carbon atom. It is commonly produced from the oxidation of methanal (formaldehyde), which itself is produced by the oxidation of methanol. In nature it is found in the venom of bee and ant stings. An ester or salt of methanoic acid is referred to as formate (systematic: methanoate).
